FBI claims arrest of 'Bucket List Bandit' - Pittsburgh Post Gazette

FBI agents have arrested a person they say is a serial bank robber who became known as the "Bucket List Bandit" after he told a teller he had just four months to live.

Michael Eugene Brewster, 54, was arrested late Thursday, said Kelly Kochamba, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Pittsburgh.

The most recent robbery the FBI attributed to him came Monday at a Huntington National Bank branch in Erie.

Agents say he robbed at least 10 banks throughout the country since June and they don't believe he had any ties to western Pennsylvania, though his motives remain under investigation.

A tipster called the FBI office in Erie on Wednesday and identified Mr. Brewster as the suspect, providing agents with his name and birth date, according to a federal complaint.

Authorities believe he also robbed banks in Colorado, Arizona, Utah, North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois and Missouri.

In each case, he would approach the teller and present a note.

The robber captured on surveillance videos taken from robberies in these states looked similar to Mr. Brewster, according to the complaint.

The FBI said it would release more information on the case later today.
